Pax Albiana

Has it really been nearly two years since I played Creatures 1? Strange how so much time can pass, and yet when I return, it feels like it's been maybe a week. Anyway, when I started the game, pretty much everyone was clustered on the island, so I decided to move some Norns around. Some were more reluctant to leave than others; Cassius continually tried to wrest control of the mover from me to return to the island, but I eventually got him over to the beehives. Eudocia, Gaius, and Augustus were boated over to the Grendel Tree without complaint, and Aurelia rode over to the lighthouse without any fuss either. Eventually only Oriana remained on the island.

Eudocia, who has been quite good about taking care of herself - sleeping and eating on her own - laid an egg in the Temple, surrounded by a gaggle of Norns (and the Grendel), a few of whom made a couple attempts to go down to the deathcap, which I swiftly intervened in.

I encouraged them to spread out a bit to make my life a touch easier. I lured Secundus, Marcellus, Gaius, and Eudocia over to the garden, whereupon Marcellus wandered into the kitchen to ride the lift for the next fifteen minutes, and the rest entertained themselves with carrots and balls. Aurelia made herself at home in the treehouse, which made me keenly aware of how little food is available up there. I must say I've always loved the treehouse; it seems so warm and cozy, with the light filtering in through the leaves and the window. It seems a shame how empty that part of the world is; there's no food except honey pots, and the toys usually get moved elsewhere. Actually, Albia could use more toys in general. And more food. Hm...

Everything was going so smoothly, I did a double take when I saw the Observation Kit listing Cassius as sick. Cassius, who was currently riding the submarine with Secundus and Eudocia, who was pregnant again. That's not the worst possible scenario, but it's certainly up there. I was able to make the best of it though - I was able to carefully wrangle Eudocia away from the other two and verify that she was healthy before sending her off on the submarine again. It was probably for the best, as well, that I was there to see Secundus with Cassius and hear him coughing, or I wouldn't have known the Grendel was infected as well. I quarantined them both on the island, and they got over the sickness relatively quickly.

I had a brief scare when Oriana turned up "sick" on the Observation Kit soon after, but it turned out she'd just eaten a weed. Sadly, Gaius passed away from old age not long after, and I will not be hatching a replacement. Why? Because the Incubator was shut, so I was having to stockpile eggs rather than hatch and export them, and I had too many Norns to see them all on the Observation Kit at once. Unfortunately, I once again screwed up using the Funeral Kit and failed to make him a headstone, so this will have to do. Sorry, Gaius.
